Those of you who are avid readers of the Western Gazette will have seen the recent article about Frank Naish and cider making at Piltown Farm, near Glastonbury.  Many of you will have also noticed work in the field opposite the village hall and perhaps some might even have put two and two together.

This is a volunteer drivers’ service for local residents with no transport for medical appointments.  The Drivers are all volunteers and the service is offered in response to the results of the Village Plan Questionnaire (Initiated originally by the Parish Council).

Martin Surrey, Chairman of Yeovil Freewheelers is presented with a cheque for £2,700!  This brings the total raised over recent years to more than £11,500.

Yeovil Freewheelers Emergency Volunteer Service is a registered charity operating in South Somerset to provide an out-of-hours unique free courier service between hospitals and patients in their homes. The charity operates a fleet of three motorcycles to carry urgently needed medical items such as blood, biological samples, medical notes, x-rays and medicines. The service is provided free of charge and all members are unpaid volunteers.

Supporters of ‘Our SHOP’ in Hinton St George are celebrating the news that the community has been awarded a grant of £26,692 from the BIG Lottery’s Village SOS scheme towards the costs of the creation of a self-contained flat above ‘Our SHOP’.
