On Saturday 5th October we were treated to an exceptional evening of singing by the Cowbridge Male Voice Choir.  The glorious sound of the 45-strong male voice choir filled the 15th century church of St George with songs in a broad repertoire, sung in both English and Welsh.

Festival committee chairman Les Farris commented afterwards:

“This was a very successful evening, from all perspectives.  The audience was one of the most appreciative we’ve had at any of our Festival concerts, the choir members thoroughly enjoyed their first ever performance in Somerset – and wish to return to Hinton – and a modest profit was made to help fund next June’s week-long Festival.   I suspect that never before in the 500+ years of the church’s existence has it played host to such a large choir”.

The evening was another sell-out success for Hinton’s Festival Committee.  This high energy folk-rock band of multi instrumentalists played a mix of Irish, Celtic and American music that kept toes tapping throughout the evening.  This was Paddy’s Whiskers’ first gig in Somerset but judging by the enthusiasm of the capacity audience it won’t be the last.

On Saturday 5th October 2013,  we will bring to Hinton another first – a Welsh Male Voice Choir.  The Cowbridge Choir, established in 1971, is well-known all over the country and their 30-strong group will raise the rafters of St. George’s Church. Coming all the way from the Vale of Glamorgan, their distinctive red blazers would brighten up any autumn evening!
