For the first time in many years, Hinton St George is in the throes of organising a Village Fete, to be held on Sunday 20th July between 11.00am and 4.00pm, along West Street and on the School playing field.
Having invited over 20 village groups to take part, the response has been overwhelming and all have come forward with ideas for their own fund-raising activity/stall – a Hog roast, Church Tower tours, Pimms tent, beer tent, bottle tombola, vintage car display, Village Show, Hinton’s very own “Bake Off (with the theme “A cake for a summer’s day”), a flower festival in the Church and even a human fruit machine! For the children we have face painting, a treasure hunt, ‘Beat the Goalie’ and a sweet tombola to name but a few.
Free entertainment has also been arranged, including live music provided by the Phoenix Brass Band from Crewkerne and Punch & Judy Shows, thanks to the generous sponsorship of Classic Canes. The Reading Room Trust has offered financial support and Robin Sibley has kindly offered to provide portaloos. In addition to the stalls run by village groups, a number of other traders will also be invited to take part.
Nathan Wilkinson, one of the organisers says: “Plans are afoot for what we are sure will be a fantastic day. I am particularly excited about the Village Show where there are a number of categories covering home produce, crafts, flowers and categories for children. In fact something for everyone! All we need to do now is book the weather!”
We do hope you and your family will be able to join us on what will be a splendid day.
